United States Steel

A man who suffered second degree burns on his legs while working at U.S. Steel in Granite City filed suit in Madison County Circuit Court June 10.

John Jackson claims that on June 15, 2004, he was fired for collecting benefits under the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Act. Jackson was a laborer for Wright Industrial who contracted him to U.S. Steel.

Jackson claims he has lost substantial wages and other benefits and has sustained and continues to sustain physical pain and suffering, emotional distress and loss of reputation.

Represented by Lee Baron of Alton, Jackson is seeking at least $50,000 in compensatory damages and $50,000 in punitive damages for being fired for collecting benefits.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Nicholas Byron.
