Anderson Hospital named in wrongful death suit

Anderson Hospital in Maryville

Michael Taylor, whose wife, Lisa, died at Anderson Hospital while being treated for low back pain filed a wrongful death suit against the hospital and Jason Barnett, M.D. on June 2 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Seeking damages in excess of $100,000, Taylor claims Anderson and Barnett failed to timely respond to his wife's low blood platelet count and other lab tests when she sought emergency medical treatment on June 4, 2003.

“Dr. Barnett improperly prescribed Lasix on two different occasions which decreased her low blood platelet count, thereby leading to her death,” the complaint states.

As a result of his wife’s death, Taylor claims he incurred expenses for medical and funeral expenses, lost the love and affection of his wife, and has been deprived of the support she customarily provided.

Taylor is represented by James Hopkins of St. Louis. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Philip Kardis.
