Travis Rife filed a medical malpractice lawsuit in St. Clair County Circuit Court May 18 against St. Joseph’s Memorial Hospital, Michael Scott, M.D. Southern Illinois Surgical Associates, Rodney Miller, M.D. and St. Louis University Hospital seeking damages in excess of $350,000.
Rife claims he lost nerve function and suffered right axillary nerve palsy after Miller and St. Louis University failed to perform post shoulder reduction radiographic imaging studies and failed to timely evaluate and treat a right humerus fracture on March 24, 2003.
In the suit, Rife also claims that on May 23, 2003, Scott failed to obtain appropriate radiographic imaging studies of his right shoulder and failed to timely diagnose and treat his right humerus fracture.
Rife is seeking damages for constant pain and suffering, substantial medical bills, and impairment to his earning capacity.
He is represented by Joseph Bartholomew of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin of Belleville.
