Springfield resident Rodney Hale filed a six-count lawsuit against three area bars and their respective owners in Madison County Circuit Court May 11 seeking damages stemming from a May 16, 2004, car accident in which he was struck by a vehicle while walking in the road.

Hale, represented by Marc Parker of the Lakin Law Firm in Wood River, claims James Dunn, the owner of Eddie Lounge on Nameoki Road in Granite City sold alcohol to Jeremiah Compton, which led to his intoxication.

He also claims Compton drank at Sharkey’s Sports Bar in Maryville and Bindy’s in Granite City on the day of the accident.

According to the suit, Compton was under the influence of alcohol when he struck him on Illinois Route 203 in Granite City.

Hale claims he suffered extensive injuries to his head, right knee, right ankle, and body as a whole, suffered a loss of earning capacity, and has and will continue to experience pain and suffering.

He also states he has spent large sums of money on medical care, suffered a disability and disfigurement and lost wages.

Hale is seeking at least $100,000 in damages from each defendant. But, he does not name Compton as a defendant in the case.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge George Moran.
