One Beacon seeks to collect

One Beacon Insurance Company filed suit on behalf of Greg and Pam Wright of Collinsville against Bel-O Cooling & Heating of O’Fallon and Edwardsville Electric of Edwardsville Jan. 31 seeking damages the Wrights suffered in a house fire in 2001.

According to the complaint, the Wrights hired Bel-O on Jan. 12, 2001, to install furnace ducts in their home on West Clay in Collinsville. After the work was complete, a fire broke out in the
Wrights' home later the same day.

The insurance company claims the fire and damage was caused by Bel-O and Edwardsville Electric’s negligence, carelessness, failures and omissions by providing services in a manner contrary to standard practices and good workmanship, and as a result damaged wiring in the Wrights' attic.

The Wrights have incurred costs associated with repair and clean up and damage to their property totaling $47,386.62 and personal interest damages in the amount of $7,204.96, according to the complaint.

“The Wrights were unable to live in their home for 38 days because of the damage to the home and were required to stay in temporary living quarters with their infant child each night,” the complaint states.

Pursuant to the Wrights' homeowners insurance policy, Beacon paid them $54,591.24 for damages.

Represented by Randall Grady of St. Louis, Beacon is seeking damages in excess of $54,591.24 plus all costs of the suit. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Daniel Stack.
