Madison County Transit (MCT) and one of its drivers, Tyrone Lucas, were struck by a lawsuit from passenger Carrie Latham Jan. 13 in Madison County Circuit Court.
Latham claims that on Feb. 20, 2004, at 9:42 a.m. she was riding on a bus being driven by Lucas when he was involved in an accident. Lucas hit a parked vehicle at 600 W. St. Louis in East Alton.
Latham, who is seeking at least $50,000 in damages, claims she suffered injuries to her neck, pain and suffering, disability, medical expenses, lost wages, and diminution of earning capacity.
According to the suit, Lucas was careless and negligent in the operation of his MCT bus by failing to reduce speed in order to avoid a collision. Latham also alleges Lucas was operating the bus at an unreasonable speed for the conditions.
Represented by Lance Mallon of Wood River, Latham also is seeking to collect costs of the suit. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Daniel Stack.
