Janitor sues Olin and forklift driver for injuries

A South Roxana janitor is suing Olin Corp. and its forklift driver for injuries he sustained from an accident.

Gordon Treadwell filed a two-count lawsuit Dec. 10 seeking more than $100,000 from the forklift driver Lester Slightom and Olin.

Represented by Roy C. Dripps of the Lakin law Firm in Wood, Treadwell alleges he was struck in the right shoulder by a forklift driven by Slightom while attempting to hang a water hose on the south side of the west roll-up door in Olin's Cupping Department.

Treadwell was working as a janitor for Defender Services, an Olin contractor. He alleges that as a result of the accident he suffered extensive injuries and incurred costly medical expenses.

"He has experienced pain and suffering in the past and continues to experience pain and suffering at the present time and will so suffer in the future," according to the suit.

The suit seeks more than $50,000 from Slightom because the injury also caused him to suffer "a loss of earning capacity and will continue to so suffer in the future."

Treadwell also seeks at least $50,000 against Olin alleging it failed to provide a safe environoment and adequate supervision of forklift operations.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Philip Kardis in Granite City.
