Janet Heflin, an Edwardsville family law attorney, received at least five votes on a first ballot to become Madison County's newest Associate Judge.
"Of course, I am excited and very honored I got it on first ballot," Heflin said. "There was a very good pool of candidates."
Heflin, 38, who received her law degree from St. Louis University in 1991, is currently a partner at Reilly Heflin. She is married to Stephen Heflin and has two children and a step child. They reside in Edwardsville.
"I consider it a privilege to be appointed," Heflin said. "My hope is to bring fairness and integrity to the bench, which I believe to be there already."
Fourteen lawyers had applied for appointment to the judicial opening which was created by the retirement of Associate Judge Lola P. Maddox on Nov. 30. Ballots cast by the nine 3rd Judicial Circuit Court Judges in Madison County were tabulated Nov. 5.
