Campaign Cash Watch: Madison County "Democratic Team" takes in $50K

Attorney Jeff Cooper is a big part of the 'team'.

As far as campaign committees go, the "Madison County Democratic Team" is nothing if it isn't closely-held.

According to an October 11 report to the Illinois State Board of Elections by the PAC, since August 25 it raised $50,000 from just four contributors:

  • Simmons Firm, LLC gave $20,000
  • Jeffrey Cooper of SimmonsCooper LLC gave $10,000
  • Randy Bono of The Simmons Firm LLC gave $10,000
  • Stephen Tillery of Korein Tillery gave $10,000

The Madison County Democratic Team's chairman is Madison County Circuit Court Clerk Matt Melucci of Collinsville. Its treasurer is Madison County Auditor Rick Faccin of Alton.

    In other campaign donation news:

  • The Chicago personal injury law firm Power, Rogers, & Smith gave $100,000 to Illinois House Speaker Michael J. Madigan on October 8.

Name partner Joseph Power is working with Tillery on Philip Morris' pending Illinois Supreme Court appeal of Judge Nicholas' Byron's $10.1 billion Madison County verdict against the firm.

  • State Rep. Jay Hoffman received a curious $1,500 from Altria-- AKA Philip Morris-- on October 7. The same day, he received $1,500 from the Illinois Trial Lawyers PAC.
