In the final weeks before southern Illinois' watershed Supreme Court race, Illinois Lawsuit Abuse Watch (I-LAW) executive director Steve Schoeffel is reminding message-laden voters about the impact of lawsuit abuse.
"The only cure for this lawsuit epidemic," Schoeffel said, "is to elect judges and legislators who will stand up to the personal injury lawyers by fighting for patients and by removing junk science from our courts."
Schoeffel began the week-long tour commemorating Lawsuit Abuse Awareness Week at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, with planned stops in Alton, Belleville, Carbondale and Springfield.
"With key judicial elections fast approaching, voters should know that our nationally recognized lawsuit problem doesn't just hurt doctors," Schoeffel said. "It hurts all of us."
Along his trek, Schoeffel commanded attention by towing a bright red billboard that asks, "Sick of Lawsuits?" The I-LAW director also is distributing voter guides and launching a radio advertising campaign.
