Auto insurer Shelter Insurance will ask Judge Byron this week to approve a settlement reached in Judy Kay Littleton v. Shelter Insurance Company, a class action lawsuit first filed five years ago.
After an auto accident, Littleton claims that Shelter manufactured bogus disputes over whether a portion of her medical treatment was "reasonable and necessary."
The Madison County resident Littleton, represented by the Lakin Firm of Wood River, alleges that Shelter does this systematically to all of its customers
Sandberg, Phoenix and Von Gontard of St. Louis represent Shelter.
Lakin originally filed this case with two others against State Farm and Farmers Insurance.
The State Farm case was moved to Cook County by Judge Matoesian, while the Farmers' lawsuit is still pending in Madison County.
