Woman sues Alton man over auto accident injuries

A Madison County woman is suing an Alton man, citing injuries she suffered in an auto accident.

Karen S. McGarvey filed a lawsuit filed April 7 in Madison County Circuit Court against Steven C. Izard of Alton, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, on March 13, 2014, McGarvey was driving her 2008 Chrysler 300 east on East Seventh Street in Alton while Izard was driving his 2007 Dodge Dakota south on Brown Street, approaching East Seventh Street, when he crossed East Seventh and struck the side of McGarvey's vehicle.

The suit say Izard was negligent of: driving too fast for conditions; failing to reduce his speed to avoid an accident; failing to keep a proper lookout; failing to keep a proper distance between his vehicle and McGarvey's; failing to use the proper lane; failing to use the proper stopping and turning procedures at an intersection; and failing to brake, steer or otherwise maneuver his vehicle to avoid colliding with McGarvey's.

The plaintiff suffered "extensive injuries including, but not limited to, injuries to her back, right arm and right shoulder," according to the lawsuit.

McGarvey seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs. She is represented by attorneys Bradley M. Lakin and Robert W. Schmieder of SL Chapman in St. Louis.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 15-L-443.
