Laura Al-Shathir promoted to counsel with Capes Sokol

Attorney Laura E. Krebs Al-Shathir has been promoted to counsel with Capes, Sokol, Goodman & Sarachan P.C. in St. Louis.

Al-Shathir joined the firm as an associate in 2011, where she was part of the team that saved a Missouri client more than $2.7 million in a U.S. Tax Court case.

Al-Shathir practices primarily in areas of civil and criminal tax controversies and litigation, business, finance and tax advice.

She provides tax and business planning advice in corporate transactions, including business acquisitions, formations, expansions and reorganizations. She also assists with employee benefits, executive compensation, sales, dissolutions and terminations of businesses.

In her tax controversy practice, Al-Shathir advocates clients’ interests in resolving disputes with the IRS in tax audits and appeals. She also litigates before the U.S. Tax Court and helps clients evaluate options for mitigating risks and exposures with respect to offshore bank accounts and other foreign income asses.

Al-Shathir is the incoming Chair of the Taxation Section of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. She is also a member of the Missouri Bar Association, the Illinois Bar Association and the American Bar Association Sections of Taxation and Business.

In 2014, she was named a Missouri Lawyers Weekly “Up and Coming Lawyer.”

She earned her juris doctorate and a certificate in tax at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law, and a bachelor’s degree in Journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism.
