A former police officer is suing The City of East St. Louis, its mayor and city manager for allegedly withholding compensation for accumulated sick days.
Curtis Hill filed his complaint on March 26 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against The City of East St. Louis, Mayor Alvin Parks Jr. and City Manager Deletra Hudson, both in their professional capacities and individually, alleging violation of the state's wage law.
Hill was employed by the City of East St. Louis in the municipal police department until his retirement on Jan. 30, 2013. The suit states that he had accumulated 260 unused sick days for which he has not been compensated in a timely manner according to state law.
Claiming infringement of the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act, the plaintiff states that Parks and Hudson knowingly permitted his final compensation to be withheld from him.
Hill seeks judgment against the defendants for the amount claimed due for his sick days, damages of 2% of the amount for each month of delay, plus attorneys’ fees and costs. He is represented by George Ripplinger of Ripplinger & Zimmer in Belleville.
