Patient sues health care system, doctors over infected sutures

A patient who underwent a hysterectomy at St. Joseph's Health Center in Alton is suing for medical malpractice after her sutures became infected.

According to a lawsuit filed March 3 in Madison County Circuit Court, Kristi Nasello is suing Alton Multispecialists Ltd., OSF Healthcare System, St. Anthony's Healthsystem, and Drs. Catherine L. Wikoff and Tim C. Kisabeth for medical malpractice.

According to a lawsuit, on followup examination, it was determined that sutures in the fatty tissue around Nasello's bowels caused severe infection, which caused Nasello's bowels, bladder and intestines to drop.

She is seeking in excess of $250,000 in damages, plus costs.

Nasello is represented by attorneys Gregory G. Fenlon and David W. Horan of Clayton, Wis.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 15-L-273.
