Woman sues Belleville YMCA for exercise injury

A St. Clair County woman is suing the Belleville YMCA for alleged injuries from a weight machine.

Quiana M. Holloman of Belleville filed a lawsuit on March 10 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) of Southwest Illinois, alleging negligence in a 2013 exercise injury.

According to the complaint, on March 11, 2013, Holloman was using the YMCA facility located at 200 S. Illinois St. when she sustained injuries from a weight machine.

The suit accuses the defendant of negligence for failure to maintain or keep the machines in safe and proper condition, warn patrons that the machine in question was not functioning properly, inspect equipment periodically, train its employees as to the proper handling of equipment and instruct the plaintiff herself.

Holloman alleges the YMCA’s acts or omissions of negligence resulted in severe and permanent injuries to her body and nervous system. She cites physical and mental pain and anguish as well as medical expenses.

Holloman seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus attorney fees and costs. She is represented by attorney Jeanne AuBuchon of AuBuchon & Lee in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 15-L-136.
