Pink Slip Exotic Bar sued over patron's alleged injuries

A St. Clair County resident filed a lawsuit against a Brooklyn strip club for alleged negligence.

Herman Smith brought suit against Phillips-Garrett Inc. d/b/a Garrett’s Pink Slip Exotic Bar of St. Clair County on March 5 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Smith was a patron at the bar, located at 114 South Fourth Street on the evening of March 5, 2014. According to the complaint, he was assaulted and beaten by unknown assailants in the establishment.

According to the filing, the business was remiss in the exercise of ordinary due care for customers’ safety; and allowed the premises to become dangerous to the degree that patrons were able to become violent and aggressive in their behavior.

By failing to protect against third party misconduct and neglecting to provide adequate security personnel to monitor and remove violent patrons, the Pink Slip bar was negligent, according to court documents.

The plaintiff claims severe face and neck injuries, loss of ability to attend to usual duties and affairs, pain and anguish, as well as medical bills. Citing negligence, willful and wanton neglect and the dram shop law, Smith is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus attorneys’ fees and costs.

He is represented in the case by attorney at Ezra & Associates in Collinsville.
