S.C. Johnson and Son sue over asset transfer agreement

S.C. Johnson and Son Inc. has sued a Madison County man for allegedly failing to live up to his end of an asset transfer agreement.

S.C. Johnson and Son Inc. filed a lawsuit Feb. 10 in Madison County Circuit Court against Thomas H. Buske.

According to the complaint, Buske and S.C. Johnson agreed to settle pending litigation on Dec. 1, 2009. According to the suit, Buske took possession of five checks totaling $54,300 between Feb. 16, 2010, and April 14, 2010, which were issued to S.C. Johnson as part of the agreement.

S.C. Johnson alleges a breach of contract and is asking a judge to remit the money to the company as its contract requires.

In 2008, the Racine Wisc.-based company secured a $203.8 million verdict against Buske, whose trucking business was accused of inflating invoices.

Shortly after the verdict, Buske's wife sued him for divorce in Madison County. S.C. Johnson moved to intervene in the divorce, alleging it was a sham meant to hide moneys that Thomas Buske owed to the company.

S.C. Johnson is represented by attorneys David B.H. Williams and David J. Strubbe of Williams, Bax and Saltzman in Chicago.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 2014L008724.
