A St. Clair County woman is suing a doctor and medical practice for alleged negligence.
Laketra Blue of Belleville filed a lawsuit Feb. 3 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Dr. Shakeel Ahmed, Metroeast Endoscopy Center and Center for Gastrointestinal Health of Edwardsville, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, on Feb. 18, 2013, Blue underwent a colonoscopy and an esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) performed by Dr. Ahmed at the defendant’s facility in Fairview Heights, and Blue suffered an abrasion or burn on her neck during the procedure.
The suit states Ahmed breached his duty of care by failing to protect Blue from injury or monitor the abrasion, and that she experienced pain, suffering, emotional distress and permanent disfigurement.
Blue seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus attorney fees and costs.
She is represented by attorney Eric Evans of Evans Blasi in Granite City.
