Social media being used by Metro East law enforcement in wake of Ferguson unrest

St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly is using social media to give people up to date information on Metro East law enforcement activity following rioting and unrest in Ferguson, Mo.

On Facebook, users can go to "Metro East Joint Information Center" or www.facebook.com/metroeastjic. On Twitter, users can follow @metroeastjic for information.

"There is a great deal of misinformation being posted online that should be ignored," Kelly stated on the site as it launched Nov. 24.

Here are some recent Metro East Joint Information Center Facebook postings:

Nov. 24

- At this time, there are no reports of any unrest in the Metro East. We will update as any information becomes available.

Nov. 25:

- Both east bound and west bound traffic on the Martin Luther King Bridge is flowing normally. The protesters are on the Missouri side and are not impeding traffic on the bridge.

- Current social media reports regarding rioting at the O'Fallon IL Walmart and protesters in Cahokia are completely false. The East St. Louis Police are reporting peaceful protests in the area of 24th and State St.

- It has been confirmed by authorities with the East St. Louis Police Department that a mandatory curfew has been established for the city limits of East St. Louis. Enforcement applies to anyone 17 years of age and under and begins at 6:00 pm on 11/25 until daylight on 11/26.

- Law enforcement responded to a group of protesters in the area of 25th and State St. (East St. Louis). Three arrests were made and on scene commanders are stating the situation is under control and peaceful. At this point there is no further unrest in the area.
