Cahokia woman accuses Edwardsville dentist of improper root canal

A Cahokia woman alleges an Edwardsville dentist left her jaw permanently damaged and disfigured from an improper root canal.

Kimberly S. Kye filed a complaint against Dr. Danielle Csaszar and Meridian View Family Dental on Sept. 18 in Madison County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, Kye was seen by Csaszar who performed a root canal on her in September 2012. The patient says the dentist "negligently and carelessly used improper technique" during the procedure and failed to provide adequate follow-up care.

As a result of the alleged negligence, Kye says she sustained "severe and disabling injuries" including bilateral temporomandibular joint dislocation. She says she suffered a severe dental infection and was hospitalized for jaw dislocation that required "painful reduction procedures." Kye says she has trismus, is unable to swallow properly, has difficulty speaking and suffers from headaches.

Kye accuses Csaszar and Meridian View Family Dental of negligence and seeks more than $100,000 in damages for medical expenses, "extensive pain and suffering," disfigurement and emotional distress.

Attorney Michelle Akinsiku Hayde, with the Farrise Law Firm in O'Fallon, represents Kye. They seek a jury trial.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 14-L-1296.
