Foley Tavern sued by man claiming patron hit him on head, then ran him over with vehicle

A man says he suffered various injuries after a bar patron ran over him with his vehicle.

John Guest filed a lawsuit Aug. 11 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Foley Tavern of Illinois and an unknown patron.

In his complaint, Guest alleges he was visiting Foley's Tavern on Feb. 17, 2013, when he sustained severe and permanently disabling injuries after a patron struck him in the head, then ran over him in his vehicle.

Because of the incident, Guest suffered leg and ankle injuries, endured great pain and mental anguish and suffered physical and emotional injuries, according to the complaint. He also incurred medical costs and lost wages, the suit states.

Guest blames Foley Tavern for causing his injuries, saying it negligently failed to exercise ordinary care to ensure that the property was safe, failed to warn him his health was in danger, failed to supervise its employees, failed to adequately instruct or train its employees and failed to provide adequate lighting and security cameras.

The plaintiff seeks a judgment of more than $150,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just. He is being represented by attorney Robert G. Jones of Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 14-L-589.
