Granite City tenants sue landlord claiming injury due to unsafe floor boards

A man and his wife are suing over claims he was injured when their landlord failed to correct unsafe boards on the porch.

Adam Sneed and Paula Wright filed a lawsuit April 14 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Justin D. Cann, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Sneed and Wright rented a house from Cann on Madison Avenue in Granite City on Feb. 1, 2012, and shortly after notified the defendant of raised boards on the porch presenting a danger. The couple says after several notifications and Cann's alleged failure to repair the safety hazard, Sneed tripped on the boards on May 25, 2012, which caused him to fall through the glass front door and sustain injuries, including permanent nerve damage in his right hand.

Sneed and Wright are seeking more than $100,000 in damages. They are being represented in the case by attorney David M. Duree.

Madison County Circuit Court Case No. 14-L-560.
