A woman claims she lost her job after she took time off work to undergo surgery.
Breann Jones filed a lawsuit Feb. 28 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Freeburg Care Center.
Jones claims she was working for Freeburg when she scheduled emergency surgery for Oct. 19, 2012, after being diagnosed with endometriosis on Oct. 16, 2012. As a result of telling her supervisors of her need for surgery, plaintiff was discharged on Oct. 16, the suit states.
Because of her job loss, Jones lost her salary and benefits, suffered emotional distress and experienced pain and suffering, the complaint says. She also claims she suffered inconvenience and lost her enjoyment of life.
Jones says Freeburg engaged in unlawful employment practices by subjecting her to unlawful sexual discrimination, by firing her because of her attempt to take time off work for a disorder and by firing her because of her sex.
Jones is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs, punitive damages of more than $100,000 and other relief the court deems just.
She is being represented by Matthew P. Young of The Kuehn Law Firm in Belleville.
