Collinsville property owner sued by visitor who fell in hole

A man claims he suffered various ailments after he fell into a hole on a Collinsville woman’s property.

Robert Buckingham filed a lawsuit Feb. 12 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Doris Aderhold.

In his complaint, Buckingham alleges he was visiting Aderhold at her property at 308 Circle Drive in Collinsville on March 25 when he tripped and fell in a hole on the property. Because of the incident, Buckingham sustained severe and permanent injuries, was hindered and prevented from attending to his usual duties and has suffered great pain and anguish, according to the complaint. He also incurred medical costs, lost income and suffered disability, the suit states.

Buckingham blames Aderhold for causing his injuries, saying she improperly maintained her property, allowed an unsafe condition to exist, failed to make a reasonable inspection of the property, failed to warn Buckingham of the unsafe condition of the property and failed to fix the unsafe condition.

Buckingham is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000 in damages, plus costs. He is being represented by Gregory Tobin of Pratt and Tobin in East Alton.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 14-L-231.
