Driver failed to stop at stop sign, suit claims

A man is suing the driver who allegedly caused a crash by failing to stop at a stop sign.


James E. Appel filed a lawsuit Feb. 3 in the St. Clair Circuit Court against Markeith R. Wright, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, on March 8, Appel was driving his Chrysler PT Cruiser eastbound on West Washington Street, Belleville, approaching its intersection with South Sixth Street. The complaint states at the same time the defendant was driving northbound on South Sixth Street towards its intersection with West Washington Street when he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into Appel's vehicle, causing injuries.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000. He is being represented in the case by attorney Matthew J. Marlen.
