A passenger claims he suffered extensive injuries to his neck, chest and leg during a collision.
Ricky J. Blaine filed a lawsuit Feb. 6 in Madison County Circuit Court against Darren J. Newlin.
Blaine claims he was riding in a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer Newlin was driving south on Curvey Street on March 2, when Newlin attempted to drive across all four lanes of Homer M. Adams Parkway in Alton. At the same time, Kenneth A. Grant was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer east on Homer M. Adams Parkway near its intersection with Curvey Street in Alton when Newlin struck his vehicle, according to the complaint.
Because of the collision, Blaine became sick, sore, lame and disordered, incurred medical costs, experienced pain and suffering, lost wages and his earning capacity and endured disability and disfigurement, according to the suit.
Newlin negligently failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision, drove too fast, failed to brake or steer to avoid an accident, failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to yield to oncoming traffic, the complaint says.
Blaine is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
He is being represented by Rodney D. Caffey of The Caffey Law Group in Alton.
