Driver rear-ended in construction zone on I-64 sues

A man has filed suit against the driver who he claims rear-ended his vehicle.

George Cooper filed a lawsuit Feb. 5 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Steven Ayers, individually and as an employee of J.F. Electric Inc.

Cooper claims he was driving west on Interstate 64 in St. Louis on July 8, 2012, when the defendant drove too fast in a work zone and rear-ended his vehicle. Because of the collision, Cooper suffered great pain and anguish and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint.

Ayers negligently failed to exercise the proper degree of care and caution required, failed to keep an adequate lookout, drove too fast, failed to decrease his speed to avoid a collision and failed to change the course of his vehicle to avoid a collision, the suit states.

Cooper is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs. He is being represented by Michael A. Knobloch of Goldberg, Weisman and Cairo in Chicago.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 14-L-198.
