Woman sues doctors claiming they failed to timely diagnose breast cancer

A woman and her husband have filed suit against the doctors who they claim failed to timely diagnose the woman with breast cancer.

Sharon Wylie claims she had been going to Drs. William Chadwick, Harley Hammermann, Mark Hoffman and Rajeshwar Luther, who had performed various mammograms and ultrasounds of her left breast. However, during their investigation of the ultrasounds, the doctors failed to identify a mass that was growing, according to the complaint filed Dec. 9 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. They also failed to timely biopsy and diagnose the cancer and failed to timely treat it, the suit states.

As a result, Sharon Wylie’s cancer grew and she is now battling an aggressive cancer, the complaint says.

Sharon Wylie has suffered permanent pain and mental anguish, endured disability and disfigurement, was prevented from attending to her usual duties and affairs and lost wages, according to the complaint. She also incurred medical costs, the suit states.

In her complaint, Sharon Wylie is seeking a judgment of more than $900,000, plus costs.

Thomas Q. Keefe Jr. of Keefe and Keefe in Belleville will be representing them.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-610.
