Highland accident blamed on failure to keep proper lookout

A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims rear-ended her vehicle.

Megan Mollet claims she was driving her 2011 Ford Escape south on Poplar St. in Highland on Dec. 14, 2011, when she came to a stop as she waited for traffic. Suddenly, defendant Madeline Sirko, who was driving a Hyundai Sonata in the same direction, struck Mollet’s vehicle, according to the complaint filed Dec. 9 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Because of the collision, Mollet suffered severe and permanent injuries to her head, neck and shoulders; became sick, sore, lame, disabled and disordered; and incurred medical costs, the suit states. She also experienced pain and suffering, lost her ability to lead her normal life and lost wages, the complaint says.

Mollet blames Sirko for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove in such a manner so as to strike the back of Mollet’s vehicle, failed to properly apply her brakes, drove too fast and failed to reduce her speed despite unsafe weather conditions.

In her complaint, Mollet is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000.

Justin L. Mason of The Law Offices of Justin L. Mason in St. Louis will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-2042.
