Complications following knee surgery subject of med mal suit

A Madison County doctor is being sued by one of his patients who claims he caused her to lose the use of her right knee.

Theresa Mowers filed a lawsuit Nov. 26 in Madison County Circuit Court against Dr. Randall Rogalsky and Alton Multispecialists Ltd.

In August 2010 Mowers says she began seeing Dr. Rogalsky at Atlon Multispecialists for treatment of pain in her right knee. According to the complaint, Dr. Rogalsky performed multiple orthopedic procedures including a total replacement of Mowers' right knee. However, in March 2012 Mowers claims she was discharged by Dr. Rogalsky with an undiagnosed infection in her knee. Because of the damage done by the infection Mowers alleges she had to have her knee joint fused, causing her to lose movement. The patient says she was left with chronic infection in the joint.

Mowers accuses the doctor and his employer of negligence for failing to diagnose the infection and treat it properly. She asks for an undisclosed amount in damages for medical expenses, lost wages and costs of the lawsuit.

Attorney Thomas G. Kemper of Granite City represents Mowers.
