State Farm accused of not paying for insured's damages

State Farm is accused of not paying for damage done to a Madison County home the company insured.

David J. Ray filed a lawsuit Nov. 21 in Madison County Circuit Court against State Farm Fire and Casualty Company Inc.

According to the complaint, Ray had an insurance policy with State Farm covering his house. When his home was damaged, Ray says he filed a claim with the insurance company. The homeowner alleges State Farm refused to pay for the loss and instead repeatedly asked for information that had already been provided.

Ray contends State Farm's actions were vexatious and made in bad faith. He asks for a judgment of more than $100,000 in damages plus penalties and court fees.

Attorney Thomas G. Maag of Wood River represents Ray. They request a jury trial.
