A woman has filed suit against Macy’s, saying she fell on a puddle of water at the store located in St. Clair Square in Fairview Heights.
Elsa M. Jones claims she was walking on the ground floor of Macy’s on March 25 and was turning a corner near the home supplies area when she fell on a pool of water on the floor.
Because of the fall, Jones suffered from a broken foot, endured back pain, experienced pain and suffering and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed Nov. 7 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Jones blames Macy’s for causing her fall, saying it negligently failed to provide a safe ingress, failed to provide adequate lighting, failed to inspect the premises to see the presence of a foreign object on the floor, allowed a foreign object to be present on the floor, failed to properly maintain a safe walking area and failed to warn of the unsafe condition of the floor.
In addition to Macy’s, Jones names Capital Building Services Group as a defendant, saying it owned the building where she fell.
In her complaint, Jones seeks a judgment of more than $50,000.
She will be represented by Randall P. Steele of Steele Law Offices in Glen Carbon.
