A man claims he was forced to undergo multiple procedures on his eye after a doctor failed to properly place the correct lens during a cataract extraction and lens implantation.
Raymond and Betty Gore filed a lawsuit Nov. 13 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Dr. Josh Amato, Ophthalmology Consultants and Belleville Surgical Center.
The Gores claim Amato was supposed to perform a cataract extraction and lens implantation on Raymond Gore’s left eye, but failed to properly place the lens. As a result, Raymond Gore suffered from edema and was forced to endure a lens extraction, a lens reimplantation, a cornea transplant and a loss of vision in his eye, according to the complaint.
He also experienced pain and suffering, lost his enjoyment of life and incurred medical costs because of the incident, the suit states.
In addition to Amato, the Gores name Ophthalmology Consultants and Belleville Surgical Center as defendants, saying Amato worked for both at the time of the incident.
In their complaint, the Gores seek a judgment of more than $300,000, plus costs.
Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville will be representing them.
St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 13-L-577.
