An electric distribution cooperative is denying all allegations brought against it in a third-party defendant’s affirmative defenses.
On Oct. 17, defendant Southwestern Electric Cooperative filed a response as third party plaintiff in Thiems Construction Company’s affirmative defenses through attorneys John S. McCollough and Matthew B. Champlin of HeplerBroom in St. Louis.
Southwestern Electric named Thiems Construction Company a third party defendant on Sept. 12.
The original complaint was filed against Southwestern Electric by Nancy Mehochko, who claims her husband Gregory Mehochko was working near and touching a concrete mixer on Jan. 23 when an overhead power line without insulation collapsed and came in contact with the concrete mixer. He died on Feb. 12.
Southwestern Electric owns the power line, which was knocked over after a track hoe came into contact with it.
Nancy Mehochko seeks a judgment of more than $50,000 in damages.
St. Clair County Circuit Judge Vincent Lopinot scheduled a status conference for Dec. 9 at 9 a.m.
