Woman litigates for damages allegedly caused by highway collision

A woman claims another driver forced her to drive into a median in a collision, allegedly damaging her car and causing injuries.

Sandy Horne filed a lawsuit on June 15 in Madison County Circuit Court against Elizabeth A. Bequette, claiming vehicular negligence in a March 2015 accident in Edwardsville.

According to the complaint, both parties were headed southbound on I-55 on March 28, 2015. When Bequette allegedly veered out of her lane and into Horne’s lane, the plaintiff states that she was forced to steer her car in an emergency maneuver to avoid impact, swerving into the median and incurring damages and personal injuries.

The suit states that Bequette was guilty of not keeping a proper lookout for traffic in other lanes, not controlling her vehicle and failing to observe the plaintiff’s car.

The lawsuit states that Horne’s injuries required surgery and have hindered her from pursuing her usual occupations. Claiming medical expenses and total loss of her vehicle, the plaintiff seeks judgment in her favor for damages in excess of $50,000 plus attorneys’ fees and costs.

She is represented by Daniel Konicek of Konicek & Dillon in Geneva.
