State legal community and VA get together for vets
Justice Thomas R. Fitzgerald of the Illinois Supreme Court, Director L. Tammy Duckworth of the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs, officials of The John Marshall Law School and the Illinois State Bar Association announced Wednesday a joint initiative to support Illinois veterans in obtaining legal services and disability and educational benefits.
Parents sue southern Illinois law enforcement officials over son's death
Robert and Kay Jones of Union County filed suit in U.S. District Court against various law enforcement officials alleging they deprived them of their civil rights which resulted in the wrongful death of their son, Melvin Jones, a Navy veteran and member of the Illinois National Guard.
Highway pedestrian sues state trooper after being struck on interstate
A Fort Worth, Texas man who was allegedly struck by an Illinois State Police vehicle in Effingham filed a personal injury suit seeking damages in excess of $100,000 for his alleged injuries.

Judy Greer filed a personal injury suit against Maco Management in Madison County Circuit Court Aug. 30, alleging she was injured when she tripped and fell in a hole on her rental property.
Casino Queen employees claim racial discrimination in suit
Twenty current and former employees of the Casino Queen allege the business engaged in racial discrimination and retaliated against black employees who complained about it, according to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis.

The estate of Ambrose Poss filed an asbestos suit against 79 defendant corporations claiming he was exposed to asbestos while employed as a mechanic, service manager, business manager, supervisor and general manager at various locations from 1946-1981.
