Motel bathtub injury leads to $50k personal injury suit

A woman who claims a Collinsville motel failed to provide a non-skid surface in its bathtub filed a $50,000 personal injury lawsuit in Madison County Circuit Court.

Karen S. Wood of New Holland claims she slipped and fell when exiting the shower/bathtub at the EconoLodge of Collinsville at 2701 Maryville Rd. in Maryville on May 25, in Room 153.

As a result, Wood claims she suffered a comminuted fracture of the right distal radius and ulnar styloid which required surgery.

She also claims the motel failed to provide a grab bar to assist people in exiting and entering the tub.

According to Wood, her injuries caused and will continue to cause pain and suffering, the loss of earnings and wages, liability for medical expenses and loss of a normal life.

Wood is represented by Eric Carlson of Carlson & Carlson of Edwardsville.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge David Hylla.
