Illinois Supreme Court Appoints Patrick King as Resident Judge in Third Judicial Circuit

Justice David K. Overstreet and the Illinois Supreme Court have announced the appointment of Patrick G. King as a Resident Circuit Judge in Madison County in the Third Judicial Circuit, Subcircuit Two.

 Mr. King was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Stephen A. Stobbs on December 31, 2024. The appointment of Mr. King is effective February 21, 2025, and will conclude on December 7, 2026, following the November 2026 general election. “I am honored and humbled for this opportunity to serve as a circuit judge,” Mr. King said. “It’s my plan to be fair, impartial and independent by being a faithful public servant for all citizens. I’m excited and grateful for this opportunity to serve in the judiciary.” Applicants for the position went through a screening and evaluation process. Members of the screening committee included retired attorney Jeff Hebrank, Chair, Hon David Hylla (ret.), and attorneys Erin Beavers, Amanda Highlander, and Dawn Sallerson. Mr. King’s experience includes nearly 15 years of serving as lead counsel in civil, criminal, and administrative cases, first at King Law Firm LLC which he founded in 2011 and then at MillerKing LLC where he is the founder and managing partner since 2019. His area of focus has primarily been on civil litigation (personal injury and wrongful death), municipal law, and mediation. He was previously a special public defender in the Third Judicial Circuit, as well as an associate attorney at the Law Offices of Brown and Associates. Mr. King additionally serves as the appointed attorney for the City of Grafton, the City of Alton’s Civil Service Commission, the Village of New Douglas, the Village of Glen Carbon Police Commission, the Village of Maryville Police & Fire Commission, the City of Troy Police Commission, and the Village of St. Jacob Zoning Board Administrator (Hearing Officer). 

Mr. King earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Missouri and earned his Juris Doctor from the Cooley Law School. His professional affiliations include the Tri-City Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. He has served as a past president of the Alton Wood River Bar Association, the Catholic Bar Association of Diocese of Springfield, and the Madison County Bar Association.
