Illinois Supreme Court Appoints Christina Kye As Circuit Judge in Eighteenth Circuit

Justice Mary K. O’Brien and the Illinois Supreme Court have announced that Christina Soohee Kye has been appointed as a Circuit Judge in the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit, Fourth Subcircuit. 

Ms. Kye is being appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Karen M. Wilson. Ms. Kye’s appointment is effective December 16, 2024, and will expire on Dec. 7, 2026. “With over 15 years of experience serving as an assistant state’s attorney, Ms. Kye has developed a deep understanding of the legal and social issues that arise daily in the circuit court,” Justice O’Brien said. “Ms. Kye also brings a passion for the law and a commitment to the pursuit of justice, which will serve her well in her new role as a DuPage County circuit court judge.” Ms. Kye is a career prosecutor, having served as an assistant state’s attorney in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office from 2009 to 2021, when she joined the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office in the same capacity. “I am humbled and grateful for the appointment – thank you to Justice O’Brien and the Illinois Supreme Court for this opportunity,” Ms. Kye said. “I look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of DuPage County.” Ms. Kye earned her Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University and earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois College of Law. Her professional affiliations include the National Asian Pacific Islander Prosecutors Association, the DuPage County Bar Association (where she is Vice Chair of the Diversity Committee), the Illinois Prosecutors Bar Association, the Korean Prosecutors Association, and the National District Attorneys Association. 

Ms. Kye is also a board member of the Korean American Law Enforcement Group. The Eighteenth Judicial Circuit encompasses DuPage County.
