Illinois Supreme Court Appoints Scott P. Robinson As Resident Circuit Judge in Seventeenth Circuit

Justice Lisa Holder White and the Illinois Supreme Court have announced the appointment of Scott P. Robinson as a Resident Circuit Judge in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit, Second Subcircuit. 

Mr. Robinson is being appointed to fill the Seventeenth Circuit vacancy created by the appointment of Justice Eugene Doherty to the Appellate Court of Illinois, Fourth Judicial District. Mr. Robinson’s appointment is effective December 4, 2024, and will conclude on December 7, 2026. He will be sworn in on Wednesday, December 4 at 4 p.m. in Courtroom A of the Winnebago County Criminal Justice Center, 650 W. State Street in Rockford. “Mr. Robinson’s demonstrated devotion to the rule of law, community involvement, and unique professional and personal history have all prepared him to serve in the important role judges play in our society,” Justice Holder White said. Mr. Robinson has served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office since 2022 and as a Pretrial Fairness Act (PFA) contract attorney for the Illinois Office of the State’s Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor since 2023. His previous experience includes several years as an associate attorney at the Law Offices of Robert S. Gitmeid and Associates and at McGreevy Williams, PC, three years as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Ogle County State’s Attorney’s Office, and nine years as a teacher at Hononegah Community High School. 

“It has been a blessing and a privilege to serve my community as both a lawyer and a teacher, and I am honored beyond words to have been selected to serve as a Circuit Judge,” Robinson said. “I want to thank the selection committee and Justice Holder White for this opportunity. I also want to thank my family, teachers, and mentors for everything they have done for me. I vow to discharge my duties with humility, compassion, and a deep respect for both the law and the dignity of those who will appear before me.” Mr. Robinson earned his bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois College of Law. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association. 

The Seventeenth Judicial Circuit encompasses Winnebago and Boone counties.
