Dorman: Slusser offers 'empty promises' and 'flashy slogans' in chairman campaign

To the Editor:

In the recent announcement of his campaign for County Board Chairman, Chris Slusser presented himself as the savior of Madison County, pledging an economic turnaround and collaborative leadership. However, a closer examination reveals a candidate with a questionable past and a penchant for political theatrics.

Slusser wants voters to forget that he had to leave law enforcement for allegations of misconduct. Can a man who betrayed the public trust as a law enforcement officer be trusted to lead our county? Perhaps we should question his ability to manage the entire county when he couldn't manage his own ethical conduct.

This is the same man who wore a wire to record his opponent, the incumbent chairman and his staff. Is this the type of transparency and collaboration we can expect from someone aspiring to lead?

Slusser's call for economic development is nothing but a rehearsed slogan. His quote, "The economic turnaround of our county starts now," lacks substance and seems more like a desperate attempt to score political points. If he truly cared about economic development, why did he resort to wearing a wire to gather information rather than engaging in open dialogue with his colleagues?

His claim of being a family man and small business owner may sound appealing, but let's not forget the murky details of his departure from law enforcement. It raises concerns about his personal integrity, a critical quality for anyone seeking public office.

Slusser's snarky remark about the current Chairman playing political games within their party is ironic, considering his own history of backroom dealings. We deserve a leader who rises above petty politics, not someone who engages in them and then points fingers at others.

Madison County needs a leader with unimpeachable integrity, a track record of ethical conduct, and a genuine commitment to collaboration. Unfortunately, Chris Slusser falls short on all these fronts.

As voters, let's not be swayed by empty promises and flashy slogans. Our county deserves better than a candidate with a dubious past.

Thankfully Kurt Prenlzer is running for reelection.
