BELLEVILLE — A motorist is being sued for allegedly driving while intoxicated and causing a crash.

Julie Oligschlaeger and Michael Oligschlaeger filed a complaint on Oct. 31 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Ryan Douglas alleging negligence and other claims.

According to the plaintiffs' complaint, on Nov. 3, 2021, Douglas consumed alcoholic beverages, became intoxicated and may have used marijuana or other products containing THC. The plaintiffs claim Douglas then attempted to drive his vehicle and drove his car into the rear end of the plaintiffs' vehicle as they were stopped at a red light in Fairview Heights.

The plaintiffs allege the crash knocked Michael Oligschlaeger unconscious and pinned him in the vehicle. The collision also allegedly put Julie Oligschlaeger into a "daze." They further allege the impact was so substantial that it pushed their vehicle about 180 feet from the point of impact. The plaintiffs claim Michael Oligschlaeger suffered respiratory failure, traumatic brain injury, lung contusions, blood loss and multiple bone fractures. They further claim Julie Oligschlaeger suffered a vertebral fracture and other injuries.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief of more than $50,000, plus interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by R. Bradley Ziegler, Matthew Haas and Allison Knopp of Lewis Rice LLC in St. Louis.
