Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced a suburban Cook County man pleaded guilty and was sentenced to prison for delivering more than 900 grams of methamphetamine.

Sergio Ibarra, 64, of Lyons, Illinois, was sentenced today by DuPage County Circuit Court Judge Mike Reidy after he pleaded guilty to one count of delivery of more than 900 grams of methamphetamine, a Class X felony. Ibarra was sentenced to 15 years in prison and was immediately remanded into custody. Illinois law requires Ibarra must serve as least 75% of his sentence.

“Illicit drug sales have a destabilizing effect in our neighborhoods and often fuel increased violence and criminal activity,” Raoul said. “I will continue to partner with federal entities and law enforcement agencies across Illinois to address serious crime and hold illegal drug traffickers accountable.”

The Attorney General’s office charged Ibarra in July 2021 with the unlawful delivery and unlawful possession of methamphetamine after Ibarra allegedly delivered more than 900 grams of meth to an undercover Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agent.

Raoul’s office prosecuted the case against Ibarra following the investigation by HSI.

“This sentence should serve as a warning to others who would seek to poison our communities,” said HSI Chicago Special Agent in Charge Sean Fitzgerald. “I commend the work of the HSI special agents and the prosecutors whose teamwork helped keep drugs off our streets and put another trafficker behind bars.”

Assistant Attorney General Gregg Gansmann handled the case for Raoul’s Statewide Grand Jury Bureau.
