BELLEVILLE – The family of a St. Elizabeth's Hospital patient claims he died after his bowel was lacerated during a catheter procedure.
Plaintiff Gerri Webb, acting individually and as independent executor of the estate of Larry Webb, filed a wrongful death lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Kevin Barnett, M.D., Donald S. Crouch, M.D., Thomas V. Luong, M.D., Lincoln Surgical Associates, LTD., Samuel M. Chandra, M.D., Yashaswi Belvadi, M.D., Pablo M. Echieverria, M.D., Deborah Goldberg, M.D., Matthew J. Koch, M.D., Meliss N. Weis, M.D., Jimmy L. Moss, M.D., Bassim Assioun, M.D., St. Elizabeth's Hospital of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, and HSHS Medical Group, Inc.
According to the lawsuit, on Oct. 7, 2021, Larry Webb presented himself to St. Elizabeth's Hospital and the defendants' care for the placement of a catheter. The lawsuit alleges that during the procedure, Webb's bowel was lacerated by a surgical instrument, which required emergency surgery to repair the damage. Despite the surgery, Webb's condition continued to deteriorate while he was at the hospital under the care and observation of the defendants until he died on Oct. 12.
The lawsuit alleges Webb died as a result of the defendants' negligence to provide him with proper care and treatment.
According to the lawsuit, Larry Webb is survived by his wife, Gerri Webb, and their two adult children. Gerri alleges that as a result of the defendants' negligence, Larry's next of kin have been permanently deprived of his companionship, love, and economic support. She also claims they have suffered hardship, grief, and sorrow. She adds that they have incurred hospital, medical, funeral, and other related expenses.
The plaintiff is demanding a jury trial to seek damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs, and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorney Daniel R. Price of Wham & Wham Lawyers in Centralia.
