EDWARDSVILLE – A shopper is suing a Godfrey Dollar General after she allegedly bumped into a merchandise display case and injured herself in the store.

Plaintiff Ellen Godfrey filed the lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against DG Retail, LLC, doing business as Dollar General, citing negligence.

According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff was a patron at a Dollar General store in Godfrey on Aug. 24, 2021. She claims that while she was shopping, she collided with a display of merchandise that had extended into the walkway, which caused her to fall and sustain injuries.

According to Godfrey, the defendant negligently failed to properly maintain the premises to protect the safety of its customers.

Godfrey alleges she suffered injuries to her teeth, neck and knee, which have caused her to experience pain, suffering, and mental anguish. She alleges the injuries will impact her ability to earn income and lead a normal life. She adds that she has incurred medical expenses and will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorney Samuel A. Mormino, Jr. of Mormino Snider Law in Alton.
