EDWARDSVILLE – A man's family has filed a lawsuit against a trucking company after he died during a bus collision with one of their tractor-trailers.
Plaintiffs Elizabeth Falcon-Rodriguez, Geraldine Nelly Jimenez-Olivares, and Vanessa Del Carmen Santa Cruz-Castro, all acting as special administrators for the Estate of Juan Ernesto Vasquez-Rodriguez, filed the lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against Iloca Services, Inc., citing negligence.
According to the lawsuit, on July 12, 2023, Juan Ernesto Vasquez-Rodriguez was a passenger on a Greyhound bus and died when the bus collided with a freightliner and trailer owned and operated by Iloca Services.
The lawsuit states that the freightliner and trailer were improperly parked on the shoulder of an exit ramp at a rest stop, making it hard to see for approaching vehicles, including the Greyhound bus that Juan was riding in.
Juan is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Falcon-Rodriguez, and their five children. The plaintiffs claim they have endured pain, suffering, and the loss of his support and companionship.
The plaintiffs are seeking damages in excess of $75,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. They are represented in this case by attorney Thomas Q. Keefe, Jr., of Keefe, Keefe & Unsell, P.C. in Belleville.
