EDWARDSVILLE – The family of a patient who died after falling at Integrity Healthcare of Godfrey claims she was injured due to negligent care.

Plaintiff Laura Fuller, acting as independent administrator of the estate and personal representative of her mother Ruth Gan, filed a wrongful death lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against the Godfrey Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, LLC doing business as Integrity Healthcare of Godfrey, citing negligence in violation of the Illinois Nursing Home Act.

According to the lawsuit, Gan was admitted to Integrity Healthcare of Godfrey on July 10, 2021, for rehabilitation following a hospital stay. During her admission, she was reportedly assessed by the facility as being at high risk for potential falls. Despite the assessment, Gan was discovered later that same day after having fallen and hit her head in her assigned room. She was transferred to the hospital and diagnosed with a head injury. Gan succumbed to her injuries and died on July 21, 2021, the suit states.

Fuller alleges the defendants were negligent in their failure to provide proper care and supervision to Gan to protect her from injuries. The suit states that as a result of the defendant's alleged negligence, Gan sustained injuries, which contributed to her death. Fuller alleges Gan's death has caused her next of kin to experience grief, sorrow, mental anguish, loss of her companionship and funeral expenses.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 plus any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorney Craig J. Jensen and Brian W. Burge of Meyer Jensen, P.C. in Alton.
