BELLEVILLE – A patient claims she suffered an abscess and infection following bladder surgery.
Plaintiff Candace Birdsong filed the lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Todd Albright, D.O, Shannon Waller-Davis, RN, Heartland Women's Healthcare of Advantia, LLC, SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital, Abiodun Sngoseni, M.D., NES Illinois, Inc., Randolph Hospital District, doing business as Memorial Hospital, Paula, Lindner, M.D., and SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, citing negligence
According to the lawsuit, Birdsong underwent a bladder sling surgery performed by Albright at Good Samaritan Hospital on July 14, 2021. She remained in the hospital's care until July 16. Birdsong alleges that following the surgery, she developed complications and presented herself to various hospitals between July 17 and 21. She was seen by several caregivers including SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Heartland Women's Healthcare of Advantia, under the care of Waller-Davis, and Chester Memorial Hospital, under the care Sngoseni.
Birdsong states that on July 22, she underwent exploratory surgery at St. Elizabeth's hospital, which revealed an abscess and infection caused by her July 14 surgery.
The plaintiff alleges the defendants were negligent in their failure to provide her with proper treatment, failure to provide her a proper diagnosis for her complications, and failure to properly refer her for care.
Birdsong states that as a result of the defendants' negligence, she sustained injuries which caused her to experience pain, suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress, and disability. She alleges her injuries will impact her ability to lead a normal life. Birdsong adds that she has incurred medical expenses and will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover from her injuries.
The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorney Nathanial Q. Brown of Weilmuenster, Keck & Brown, P.C. in Belleville.
