The latest labor report for June shows Illinois still has the nation’s 5th-worst unemployment rate in the country. A 4.0 percent jobless rate means 258,000 Illinoisans were still unemployed as of June.
Nevada, at 5.4 percent, had the nation’s highest unemployment rate, followed by California, Delaware and Texas, according to the latest release from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
All of Illinois’ neighboring states had rates lower than Illinois’, some significantly lower. Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin all had jobless rates of less than 3 percent.
Illinois’ unemployment rate has been higher than most of the nation for years and the last 12 months are no different. Illinois has been among the worst-six since July 2022.
